The Dog Nanny: Marcia’s Philosophy “Causing pain is no way to train.” At The Dog Nanny, I do not approve the use of pinch collars or static shock collars. My training approach focuses on positive reinforcement and reward-based methods, combined with my extensive knowledge of canine behaviour, to find the best training solutions for both dog and owner. I have been training, competing, and breeding dogs since 1986 and have worked with a wide variety of breeds. Through my deep understanding of breed traits and canine behaviour, I am able to develop a training method—or a combination of methods—that works effectively for each individual dog and their owner. Always Learning: Training & Behaviour Over the past 20 years, there have been significant advances in our understanding of how dogs communicate and navigate their world. As a professional trainer, I stay current with the latest developments in canine behaviour and training, regularly attending and speaking at seminars and educational events. Above all, leadership is key — dogs are natural followers. My policy is to present owners with humane, effective options for training and behaviour modification, ensuring the best possible outcome for both dog and owner. The Dog Nanny has received a 4.9 out of 5 rating based on 88 customer reviews and has been listed in the top three dog training facilities consecutively since 2017.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does dog training cost in Inisfill?
Group classes: $150–$300 for a 6–8 week course. Private sessions: $75–$150 per hour. Board and train: $1,500–$4,000+ for 2–4 weeks. Puppy socialization classes: $100–$200 for 4–6 weeks. Prices vary by city and trainer experience.
When should I start training my puppy?
Start as early as 8–12 weeks for puppy socialization classes. Basic obedience can begin at 12–16 weeks. The critical socialization window closes around 14–16 weeks — early exposure to people, dogs, and environments during this period shapes your dog's temperament for life.
What training method should I look for?
Look for positive reinforcement (reward-based) trainers. This is the method supported by veterinary behaviorists and animal welfare organizations. Avoid trainers who use punishment, shock collars, or dominance-based techniques. Ask about their methods before booking.
How do I know if my dog needs a trainer vs. a behaviorist?
Trainers handle obedience, manners, and mild behavior issues. For serious problems — aggression, severe anxiety, compulsive behaviors — you need a certified animal behaviorist (CAAB) or veterinary behaviorist (DACVB). Your vet can refer you if needed.
How long does dog training take?
Basic obedience: 6–8 weeks of classes plus daily practice. Behavior modification: 3–6 months depending on severity. Board and train: 2–4 weeks intensive. Remember — training is ongoing. The classes teach YOU how to work with your dog consistently.
